Restructure of future network with NFV and SDN brings huge challenges to operators. Lots of problems will reveal with large scale field trails. We would like to share 10 lessons we learn from the nation-wide future network field trails. The trail includes 4 provinces, 6 DC, more than 20 vendors. A fully decoupled architecture is tested, with OpenStack, SDN controller, Orchestrator, distributed storage and VNFs all from different vendors. The whole testing lasts one year, with 2 phases. Contents shared includes experience with multi-vendor OpenStack, integration of OpenStack with SDN controllers, future CI/CD transformation, and etc.. These lessons will help drive the community to solve solid problems for real deployment, and also promote new technologies and solutions based on the pain points we figuring out.
In this session, we will introduce the experience and lessons we learned for the nation wide future network experiments and testing. contents will cover the following 10 questions:
1, what features should virtualized services be tested
2, are telco services ready to be virtualized and deployed? which are ready? which are not?
3, what features should openstack and SDN be tested for telco scenarios
4, is the current openstack platform good enough for telco usecases?
5, should we choose one vendor of openstack for future network deployment?
6, how should SDN work with NFV? The problem is not completly solved with a neotron plugin.
7, what is the difference between core cloud and edge cloud?
8, what should OpenStack enhance to fit into edge?
9, how should we integrate and operate the future network? not only day 1, but day 2.
10, what should we do when dpdk is not enough? is hardware acceleration mature yet?
