Google Signs on as Corporate Sponsor of the OpenStack Foundation

AUSTIN, Texas // July 16, 2015 // Google has signed on as the newest Corporate Sponsor of the OpenStack Foundation. The company will commit engineering resources to the project, focusing on Linux containers and integrating container management technologies like Kubernetes with projects such as OpenStack Magnum.

OpenStack is a collection of open source cloud computing projects used to build infrastructure supporting VMs, bare metal and containers under a single control plane. Users deploy OpenStack clouds for a diversity of workloads, including the acceleration of software development and the simplification of managing legacy workloads.

Google has been collaborating with the OpenStack community on projects like Murano and Magnum since the beginning of the year. At the OpenStack Summit in May, the company presented a demonstration of container management on OpenStack clouds in two sessions: a keynote address and a breakout session.

“We are excited about becoming active participants in the OpenStack community,” said Craig McLuckie, Product Manager at Google. “We look forward to sharing what we’ve learned and hearing how OpenStack users are thinking about containers and other technologies to support cloud-native apps.”

McLuckie will present on container management technologies at OpenStack Silicon Valley, August 26-27 in Mountain View. Google is a Headline sponsor of the event.

OpenStack Summit Tokyo
OpenStack Magnum and containers will be important topics at the upcoming OpenStack Summit, which will take place October 27-30 in Tokyo. Several thousand enterprise, telco and public cloud users will gather to discuss the future of cloud computing, cloud applications and the open source cloud ecosystem at the semi-annual event.
