Tesora announces collaboration with Mirantis to make installation of database as a service on OpenStack easier than ever before. Tesora is making available the first ever plug-in to automate configuration and deployment of its database as a service (DBaaS) platform with Mirantis OpenStack.
This makes integration of Tesora’s DBaaS, based on OpenStack Trove, as a new service on OpenStack cloud much easier for administrators. Using Tesora’s DBaaS platform enables 13 different types of databases, both relational and NoSQL, commercial and open source, to be supported from a common infrastructure for complete database lifecycle management.
The just released survey of OpenStack users and community members, conducted by the OpenStack Foundation, reports Trove database as a service among the top five projects (34 percent of respondents indicating interest). The survey results provide insights into the OpenStack community’s technology choices and future requirements.
“There is great interest in OpenStack’s database as a service and this jumpstarts the process of installation and deployment for Mirantis users,” said Brian Otis, vice president of business development, Tesora. “Support for Fuel makes it easier than ever to get a database as a service up and running on Mirantis OpenStack.”
Tesora provides the only DBaaS available as a Fuel plug-in. It will soon be available as a download from the Fuel Plugin Catalog.
“Tesora is an excellent solution for Mirantis OpenStack DBaaS because it offers a full-featured, hardened distro of OpenStack Trove that is additionally validated with Mirantis OpenStack,” said Kamesh Pemmaraju, vice president of product marketing, Mirantis. “The Tesora DBaaS Fuel Plug-in is a great way for Mirantis OpenStack users to get started with database as a service, since it automates what would otherwise be a relatively complex manual integration, helps ensure solution and cloud stability, and reduces time to value. The Tesora Fuel Plugin represents another value-add service for our users who have shown increasing interest in deploying OpenStack DBaaS.”
About OpenStack Trove
OpenStack Trove database as a service is transforming the way databases are provisioned and managed, to make database capacity that can be consumed on-demand. Trove lets administrators and DevOps manage multiple instances of different database management systems (DBMS), both relational and NoSQL, using a common infrastructure. This makes it much easier and faster to select and operate a database – while retaining all its capabilities – in a secure private or public cloud. The result is that routine tasks like provisioning, and managing regular administrative tasks like clustering, replication, backup and restore are handled in a simple, unified way.
