Contributions To OpenStack From Deutsche Telekom

Deutsche Telekom was one of the first major European companies publicly supporting the OpenStack project.

First public activities date back to 2012.

Today several engineers and architects from Deutsche Telekom contribute to OpenStack in networking, testing, storage, library, and infrastructure projects. The company is Gold Member of the OpenStack Foundation and frequent sponsor and supporter of the foundations events.

Products & Services

Deutsche Telekom leverages OpenStack in a number of areas; three projects deserve highlighting:

TelekomCloud BusinessMarketplace (a SaaS offering primarily targeted at European SMBs) uses OpenStack at its backbone and was launched in summer 2012.

In the Terastream project, an NFV cloud is built, hosting network oriented services in the network as part of the network transformation.

In March 2016 Deutsche Telekom launched Open Telekom Cloud. The public cloud is leading in size and performance in Europe. It is operated by T-Systems in European data centers by European staff. Its software is based on Huawei's FusionSphere OpenStack distribution. The Open Telekom Cloud bundles now Deutsche Telekom's OpenStack activities, applying the four opens to its business model.
