Loic Dachary has been involved with the Free Software Movement since 1987, when he started distributing GNU tapes to the general public in France. In 2012 he founded Upstream University, a nonprofit with the goal of teaching developers how to contribute easily and efficiently. With Stefano Maffulli he bootstraped the OpenStack Upstream Training which is organized in advance of the OpenStack summit since April 2014.

Early 2013 Loic Dachary became a full time Ceph developer and participated in the implementation of the Erasure Coded storage method. He was hired as a core Ceph developer by Red Hat in August 2014 and also focuses on the development workflow and the maintenance of stable releases.
