Statement of Interest

I have a fundamental interest in open infrastructure, especially with regard to digital sovereignty.
Current project: Building a self-managed, private 5G stand alone campus network with integration into existing infrastructure under OpenStack and new edge cloud with StarlingX and a sub-project also Magma for wireless networks (5G and WiFi6).

Bio

I'm involved in computer science since the mid 80s, first contact was an IBM 5170 (my first computer was a Commodore 128). Beginning from the late 1990s I've traveld around Europe as a self-employed IT consultant and I worked for many and big companies through all branches. We've developed enterprise solutions for web based management systems including the data infrastructure with the databases, enterprise resource planning systems and data warehouses in the back end.

The last 15 years, I have been working as a research associate of the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences among other things. Since 2016 I have been working almost exclusively in the field of Open Infrastructure und OpenStack, Kubernetes and CEPH and also private 5G networks. Over the past few years, I have taught various courses at the university, currently focusing on the area of ERP systems.

I am supporting ad working in open source communities with passion and full conviction. Since over a decade I am member of the OpenInfra Foundation (2016), co-founder of the OIF user group Lower-Saxony (2019), member of the Open Source Business Alliance (2023) and since 2026 ALASCA e. V.

About me: I'm 58 years old, located in Meppen, Germany. I'm married and we've got two children. I studied business informatics during the mid 1990s in Dresden, Germany. I also work as a rowing coach with successes and medals at national youth- and championships, international competitions, up to the under 23 European championships or the European University Championships. Hiking over long distances - up to 4,500 km in one go or 100 km in 22 hours - is also a hobby.
