Statement of Interest

Drive the cloud technologies adoption into Hong Kong ICT industry


Bruce Lok is the Community Coordinator of Hong Kong OpenStack User Group (HKOSUG) and working for Cisco in Hong Kong.  Bruce has over 10 years of experience in computer networking and infrastructure.  He has been developing and operating the OpenStack platform since 2011.



I'm involved in the following OpenStack projects: Nova,Swift,Glance,Keystone,Horizon,Quantum,Openstack-ci,Openstack-manuals,Deployment


Bruce is a candidate in the 2014 Board Election.


What is your relationship to OpenStack, and why is its success important to you? What would you say is your biggest contribution to OpenStack's success to date?


I am the the coordinator of Hong Kong OpenStack User Group.  In driving wider adoption of OpenStack in the territory,  I am dedicated to promote and drive the adoption of OpenStack technology across the ICT SME segments of Hong Kong’s economy.


Describe your experience with other non profits or serving as a board member. How does your experience prepare you for the role of a board member?


Since I am working in Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited which is wholly owned by the Hong Kong SAR Government, We have a public vision to establish ourself as a leading information and communications technology (ICT) hub in the Asia-Pacific region, we are also committed to facilitating the local economy by nurturing ICT industry start-ups and entrepreneurs, driving collaboration to pool resources and create business opportunities, and accelerating ICT adoption through strategic initiatives and partnerships.

OpenStack is one of the largest and fastest growing open source cloud community and is a potential platform for the future of cloud computing.  I will further promote the OpenStack cloud in APAC, case sharing and technical training, and continues to provide supports to the ICT start-up companies on the development and operation of the OpenStack cloud platform, assist to adopt different applications running on OpenStack environment.


What do you see as the Board's role in OpenStack's success?


The role in OpenStack's success is to take the lead in using cloud services to drive industry development and to take advantage of this innovative model of using ICT resources.  It has been made it becoming a mainstream model for ICT service delivery across different economic and social domains around the world. New strategies, new standards and new opportunities have continuously being developed.


What do you think the top priority of the Board should be in 2014?


With the previous success in its infrastructure development and marketing, the next top priority is to promote adoption and development of common services, standards and best practices on OpenStack ecosystem.
