The Evolution of the User Group: Facilitating OpenStack Adoption

Now that OpenStack has reached a stage of maturity that makes it an attractive enterprise platform, its continued growth over the next 12 months is going to depend not only on the technical contributors (both from individuals and companies), but more essentially from widespread ADOPTION by companies and organizations in the real world.  Within the community, the conversation has shifted from how to best architect the code (and measure such contributions), to how to make it easier to install, deploy, and bring OpenStack-based clouds into production. The question is: What role do/should user groups play in this?

This panel includes leaders in architecting and building OpenStack communities that have expertise and creativity in trying new things and bringing new results to and from our user groups. Collectively, we are responsible for 4 of the largest communities in OpenStack (including the west coast user group Ambassador, and fast-growing Women of OpenStack community).

What can I expect to learn?

In this session you will learn from community leaders about what is the role of the User Groups, the Community Architects, and the OpenStack Ambassadors in growing the adoption of OpenStack.

  • How we can change how we define "success” in OpenStack and how can can orchestrate our local communities to rally behind this initiative?
  • Where have the biggest growth areas in OpenStack been?
  • How has the impact of Telcos, NFV, and SDN adoption, as well as large public clouds in Asia pushed OpenStack back to the forefront of conversations?
  • What impact will new and disruptive technologies like Containers, AI, IoT, and Machine Learning have on OpenStack and what opportunities do they bring (from a community/user group architect perspective)?

Come hear 4 of our top community leaders talk about how we have successfully organized and orchestrated our communities to contribute to the success of OpenStack and ensure a bright future!
