Nokia: Root Cause Analysis: Principles and Practice in OpenStack and Beyond

In this session we take a broad look at the field of Root Cause Analysis (RCA) in the Cloud, in OpenStack and beyond. We will delve into the future of RCA, exploring project Vitrage and the challenges ahead, discussing the compelling need for RCA automation in order to facilitate fault management. We will also address issues including when RCA should be undertaken, and what are its goals, various accepted methodologies for achieving efficient, effective fault management and possible roles RCA has in OpenStack. Vitrage is a new OpenStack project dedicated to RCA and deduced insights into the behavior of the Cloud. With the help of a graphical model representing the different relationships between system entities, and a friendly UI, Vitrage hopes to achieve its mission of organizing, analyzing and visualizing a holistic view of the system.  Several central issues will be discussed, including role-based views of RCA, alarm aggregation, RCA history, multi-layered RCA and much more.
