Neutron Networking in the Real World -- Sharing Experiences & Lessons Learnt

In this user panel, we will discuss the OpenStack network deployment experiences of three different enterprise-scale data centers using a Unified Physical + Virtual Neutron Networking architecture.

  • Clemson University: Deploying a production-grade OpenStack Virtual Desktop environment. Experiences with deployment and operation of OpenStack and VmWare on converged data center pods, leveraging multi-tier network segmentation for threat or fault isolation, troubleshooting, monitoring and compliance.
  • Telus: Experiences with deploying a Unified Physical and Virtual networking solution for OpenStack using Mirantis Fuel. Learnings from provisioning, managing and troubleshooting distributed L2 & L3 networking across physical and virtual switch infrastructure.
  • CleanSafeCloud: Meeting performance and resilience requirements of an OpenStack-powered collocated private cloud infrastructure, encompassing IaaS and Object Storage solutions for highly secure applications, leveraging SDN architecture.

What can I expect to learn?

Attendees should expect real world experiences from data center architects who have deployed neutron networks in production.  In addition to scale and resilience of a managing an L2+L3 network from OpenStack Horizon, the panel will discuss the implications of using a unified physical + virtual networking architecture, and the challenges and benefits of using white-box based switching platforms.

You can find my “formal” professional bio further down but for most of you, this probably is all you really want to know: What’s been keeping me busy for the last two years is automation for infrastructure provisioning, OpenStack, architecting, designing and deploying clouds, NFV, SDN. I’m a unix/linux guy, always been, always will be! These days I happen to... FULL PROFILE
