Opendaylight is an industry recognized SDN controller and it provides various infrastructure and applications needed for Cloud administrators. "NetVirt" is a key component of OpenDaylight and it provides a rich set of Network Virtualization L2 and L3 services needed for OpenStack Cloud admins. The current version of OpenDaylight "NetVirt" offers Network Virtualization features in OpenFlow based OVS data plane environments.
FD.io VPP (Vector Packet Processor) platform, an open source project, is an extensible, rapid packet-processing stack for highly performing network applications, with very high forwarding performance.
To offer the best of both worlds, a new activity is initiated in OpenDaylight community to enhance OpenDaylight "NetVirt" module to support Netconf based FD.io VPP data plane devices in addition to OVS switches. This talk provides an overview of the OpenDaylight NetVirt and FD.io VPP architectures and explains integration between these two architectures.
A high level overview of OpenDaylight Network Virtualization solution and how it offers different network virtualization layer 2, layer 3, L3VPN...etc services in FD.io VPP data plane environment.
