Lessons in IPv6 Deployment in OpenStack Environments

More operators are deploying OpenStack environments using IPv6 due to the IPv4 address exhaustion. Recent releases of OpenStack supports production quality of IPv6 deployments for tenantsby leveraging the combination of Neutron features.

This session will cover the following topics:

  • IPv6 deployments options and consideration points
  • IPv6 address configuration options and comparisons (SLAAC, DHCPv6 stateless, DHCPv6 stateful)
  • IPv6 global address management: Using neutron subnet pool feature / Using prefix delegation
  • Routing considerations: dynamic routing from upstream router to tenant routers / prevent unauthorized global address
  • Points on IPv4/IPv6 dual stack : Configurations of Additional information like DNS servers, MTU or static routes
  • Both of Neutron reference implementation and third party virtual appliances are discussed.

This session will focus on being a guide on setup and operation on IPv6 deployment.
