Using OpenStack Orchestration for Big Data Workloads

According to the April 2016 User Survey, Big Data is a major use case for OpenStack deployments. At Cisco, we're seeing multiple customers using OpenStack for Big Data workloads.

In this talk, Hart will walk through the OpenStack Orchestration project (project Heat), demonstrating how it can be used to manage cloud deployments. This will include giving you an understanding of what Heat is, an overview of how to use it both server-side and client-side, key terminology, and Heat template concepts.

The talk will then go into the architecture of Big Data workloads, specifically Hadoop. Hadoop components will be mapped out and discussed. Finally, the presentation will conclude with a live demo of a deployment based on the latest Big Data reference architecture from the OpenStack Enterprise working group.

What can I expect to learn?

Attendees should walk away with knowledge of the Orchestration service including how to write templates, knowledge of Hadoop and other big data use cases, as well as how to deploy a Big Data workload on an OpenStack cloud.
