The Future for OpenStack Distributions

OpenStack offers a choice of consumption models, ranging from a “brew your own” approach from upstream code to a commercially supported enterprise-grade OpenStack distribution. Which approach is best for your business and what are the critical factors to take into account when making the right choice?

Over the past year, we’ve seen a reduction in the number of commercial OpenStack distributions to choose from. What has caused this consolidation? Should we be concerned? What is the future of the OpenStack distribution model?

This session will compare the pros and cons of choosing the “brew your own” approach or using a distribution. We’ll also explore the key things to take into account when making your decision.  This will include guidance on calculating TCO (Total Cost of Ownership), evaluating SLA (Service Level Agreement), maintenance and support requirements, skillsets and experience needed, workloads to be deployed, investment protection factors and process considerations.

What can I expect to learn?
  • How to choose the most appropriate OpenStack consumption model for your business
  • How to build a business case for an OpenStack private cloud
