In this talk we will be presenting a new feature that can be introduced in OpenStack by integration of DPDK PMD drivers using SR-IOV for NFV workloads. The VMs will be attached to hostdev devices which will increase the throughput for the NFV applications and help get as close to wire-line speed as possible for virtual machines. This implementation provides better performance, PMD accesses the RX and TX descriptors directly without any interrupts. With this set of features operator could achieve a boost to the networking performance and can leverage the Layer 2 switch on NIC for virtual machine traffic. The operator can configure advanced features for the VFs on supported NICs like VLAN filtering, mac spoofing, multicast mode, QinQ, insert tag, strip tag etc.
This proposed solution will allow operators to configure VFs at a more granular level with all the features available on cards and provide more flexibility to the NFV users.
1. Attendees will learn the networking performance benefits of integrating DPDK with SR-IOV.
2. Attendees will learn how to use the power of advanced networking features provided by the NIC they may already be using in OpenStack.
3. Attendees will learn about the flexibility users can gain when operators can configure virtual functions at such a granular level.
