A Novel Service Modeling Framework for NFV Networking

NFV Networking Service on-demand requires quick development and deployment of new APIs. Gluon provides a model-driven, extensible framework to fulfill such requirement and enable the visibility and control of specific functionality of NFV networking services.

The core of Gluon framework is a novel modeling method to define new services at micro-service level. Its extensible object model enables flexible composition of formally monolithic services with right-size functionality, based on which APIs are generated and deployed on-demand. Services can be dynamically created and bound to infrastructure resources according to fine-grained deployment requirements. Thus service providers will achieve not only the service on-demand but also the desired scalability of specific functions within a service.

This presentation talks about the detailed design and implementation of this novel service modeling framework for telco's NFV networking.

What can I expect to learn?

The audience is anyone who is interested in NFV networking and micro-services, especially how to model and architect NFV networking at a micro-service level. The audience will learn (1) the high level design of Gluon framework; (2) the components including Gluon, Particle Generator, Proton, and Shim Layer; (3) the work flow of how components interact to fulfill a new service model; (4) details of service modeling method at micro-service level; (5) service modeling language and exemplary service models; and (6) an overview and demonstration of a Proof-of-Concept.

The audience will also learn how to participate in and contribute to further development and maturity of the Gluon project. All audience members are welcome to join the group, contribute to the work, and be part of the open community.
