Preston Bannister
EMC

My current work is building backup for instances in OpenStack to the EMC Avamar (a high end backup appliance). The challenge is in extracting high quality backups with best possible efficiency (something for which current OpenStack is not readily suited).

I tend to be the algorithms guy. Making things run fast, and operate at scale is a recurring theme in past and present work.

Over the longer term, I have done distributed applications since the mid-1980's, and built applications for each generation of technology - networks local, larger, and now cloud. Most everything I have worked on had a network in the middle. Designing APIs for distributed applications is a recurring theme.

Also I have served as the security expert for most projects (more that I know enough to stay out of trouble, than claim of high expertise).

In addition, I have contributed to open source projects, though not recent. CVS, Apache Tomcat, and Jetty come to mind. (Might still be listed.) Bits to other projects as well.
