Rolling Your Own Kubernetes Clusters on OpenStack with Ansible and Terraform

As interest grows around the container ecosystem, enterprises are looking to explore orchestration tools such as Kubernetes. This talk will give a tour of the community resources available for deploying Kubernetes clusters on any group of servers, as well as how to leverage tools like Terraform to automate the creation of necessary infrastructure. We will end with a demo of a full end-to-end deployment of a small cluster.

What can I expect to learn?

Attendees will learn about the basics of creating OpenStack resources using a tool like Terraform, as well as how to transition from this creation to provisioning with Ansible. The basics of ansible playbooks will be reviewed and some basic Kubernetes usage will be shown in the form of the “kubectl” commands. Finally, we will deploy an application stack to demonstrate functionality. The attendees will leave the session feeling confident and prepared to leverage the tools to test out Kubernetes deployment in their own Openstack environment.
