Join The OpenStack Foundation

The OpenStack Foundation was founded in 2012.  Join now as an Individual Member and help shape the future of OpenStack. It's free!

This is an exciting time for OpenStack, with the establishment of an independent, permanent legal home that can represent Stackers all over the globe for many years to come. In addition to individual members, we are also looking for corporate sponsors who believe in the mission and want to help.

The Mission

The OpenStack Foundation is an independent body providing shared resources to help achieve the OpenStack Mission by Protecting, Empowering, and Promoting OpenStack software and the community around it, including users, developers and the entire ecosystem.

Become a Member: Individuals & Companies can be members of the OpenStack Foundation.

Platinum Membership

The foundation will also have Platinum Members as specified in the bylaws, who play an important role in providing support that makes the foundation's work possible. The initial list of these companies is set, but if you are intestersted in becoming a Platinum Member in the future when a spot opens up, please contact us. In the meantime, we would encourage any company looking to provide support to apply to become a Gold Member, or to become a Corporate Sponsor today (see below).

For reference, the Platinum Members each contribute $500k USD per year to the foundation and must also have the equivalent of 2 full time employees contributing to OpenStack.  There are additional details outlined during the formation phase that are outlined on the wiki here.  Again, there are no available Platinum memberships at this time, so this information is included here for future reference.

        Gold Membership

Organizations can apply now to become new Gold Members, and will become Members subject to board approval. Contact us to receive the applicaton and Gold Member Agreement. And be sure to review the critera published by the board as a guide, and review the bylaws and other legal documents for more details.

At the start of their term, new Gold Members will immediately be represented by the Gold Directors already in office, who make up 1/3 of the board and represent the entire Gold class (not the companies who employ them).  New Gold Members will be eligible to vote in future elections starting in January 2015.

Gold Members make an annual contribution equal to .025% of their revenue with a minimum contribution of $50K USD/year and a maximum of $200k USD/year.  (Quick guide to the math:  if your company generates $200M in revenue a year or less, you'll pay the $50k minimum.  If your company generates $800M or more a year in revenue, you'll pay the maximum $200k/year.)  The structure was originally outlined on the wiki here where you can find additional detail.
