Openstack Clouds as Research Infrastructure

This session will provide some short talks on experiences with using Openstack to run cloud infrastructure for academic research, as well as thoughts on the current practice and the future vision for Openstack research clouds.

Talks will include:

  • experiences in operating the pioneering Nectar Openstack research cloud, which has provided a federated national cloud infrastructure for the Australian research sector since 2012 
  • the Open Research Cloud initiative 
  • examples of research applications running on the Nectar cloud 
  • university perspectives on the use of Openstack cloud infrastructure and growth in demand
