Network Engineer and Data Center Developers Share Ideas

A discussion of the constraints imposed on OpenStack by Telco class NFV applications. Sharing of ideas and experiences by network engineers and openstack developers and operators.

Discuss why and how to address Telco challenges like:

  • We need 40Gb/s throughput per socket
  • Must failover in 50 ms or less
  • Must support L2 (VLANs) connectivity to servers

and Cloud first data center assumptions like:

  • If you need more bandwidth just make more VMs or containers
  • Write your application so it can survive network failures of 5 seconds
  • If you need L2, use VxLAN or other overlay
