Not only for miners: GPU integration in Nova environment

The GPU instances is a new trendy market that more and more public cloud providers are stepping in. A year ago OVH started working on GPU integration for dedicated servers and public cloud instances.

We started by integrating the Nvidia GTX970, a pretty old GPU card, which went quickly. Problems came later, along with integration of the new GTX 10x0 series.

A lot of bugs were found at different levels. The purpose of this presentation is to demonstrate how we fixed them, like:

- BIOS/UEFI configuration to have PCI Passthrough,

- Nova configuration to have a working GPU in Windows Guests,

- Libvirt/Nova-compute patch to integrate new features like cpu pinning, kvm_hidden flag and OVMF support

What can I expect to learn?

How to deploy GPU in OpenStack Nova instances and what to tune to make it work.
