FIWARE is Open source platform for hosting IoT enabled applications. The FIWARE platform provides set of APIs that ease the development of Smart Applications in multiple vertical sectors. The specifications of these APIs are public and royalty-free. There is open source reference implementation of each of the FIWARE components is publicly available. This platform is presently utilized in many IoT use cases (specially around Smart Cities, Smart Agro and Smart Industry).  FIWARE uses OpenStack as defacto base for IaaS platform and also uses some of the core services for its functioning. Almost all FIWARE nodes are hosted world wise using OpenStack. Further as FIWARE’s components are container based so it uses Kubernetes for orchestration.

As of now OpenStack and FIWARE are loosely coupled and integration effort is very less. We would like to open a discussion around finding some roadmap where OpenStack community and FIWARE community work together to provide much stronger platform for large industry verticals.

As of now FIWARE community is having more than 1000 startups, 11 innovation hubs, 2 accelarator programs and it is used in 100+ smart cities in Europe/Asia. The community is growing at very fast pace.
