Extending Blazar reservations to new resource types

Blazar currently provides reservation of compute resources, i.e. whole hosts (hypervisors) and instances. The Blazar project would like to support reservation of other types of resources that users may require, such as:

  • reservation of SR-IOV resources / NUMA-aware resources (Nova / Neutron)
  • reservation of networking resources such as floating IPs, VLANs used for provider networks, bandwidth (Neutron)
  • reservation of GPUs, FPGAs, etc. (Cyborg)
  • reservation of storage volumes (Cinder)

These projects would need to provide mechanisms to enforce resource reservation that Blazar can leverage.

An additonal topic of discussion is whether a generic approach can be used for projects that leverage the placement API.

What can I expect to learn?

This session will gather contributors to the Blazar project (Resource reservation service) and contributors to other OpenStack projects providing resources that could be reserved. Gathering all these contributors in the same session would help define the requirements and mechanisms to enforce resource reservation.
