Lessons learned running enterprise-scale email services on OpenStack

We all rely heavily on email as a primary means of communication in our personal and professional lives. While traditional email hosting satisfies most needs, large telco providers, who provide millions of email boxes to their end users, seek scalable, reliable and secure email solutions.

To meet these needs, Open-Xchange, a software company that develops, markets and sells web-based communication, collaboration and office productivity software, uses an OpenStack private cloud to host their email service. OpenStack provides the levels of agility, flexibility and capabilities required to service the email requirements of the largest telco providers in the world.

This talk describes the lessons learned in launching an email platform to support large telecom providers with specific email use cases; and it will also discuss the issues of accountability, risk acceptance, and the role of project leadership when using an OpenStack managed services provider.

What can I expect to learn?

Attendees will learn how Open-Xchange solved the challenges they encountered while operating email services at large scale on OpenStack for some of the world’s largest telco providers.
