Demystifying OpenStack Storage - Hands On

Newcomers to OpenStack are often perplexed by the number of different storage options available (Ephemeral, Block, File, and Object). Each comes with its own set of commands, APIs, and typical use cases. Even more confusing, there are different implementations of the same storage option! It might seem daunting to learn them all but it is doable!

We've put together a hands-on workshop to teach you the basics of each storage option. You'll be provided with access to an OpenStack cloud with all four storage options enabled and ready to be configured and used. Using a combination of the OpenStack Horizon GUI and CLI, you'll be running through enabling, configuring, and using each storage function in a typical use case scenario for said storage function.

Attendees will need to bring their own laptops with a modern web browser and SSH client. This lab is built upon completely open source software.

What can I expect to learn?

This workshop will teach attendees the benefits, shortcomings, and typical uses of each OpenStack storage option. As part of running through the workshop exercises, attendees will also learn the basic mechanisms to configure and deploy these storage options through the Horizon GUI and OpenStack CLI.
