The Must-Attend

Open Infrastructure Event

The world runs on open infrastructure. At the OpenStack Summit, you’ll learn about the mix of open technologies building the modern infrastructure stack, including OpenStack, Kubernetes, Docker, Ansible, Ceph, OVS, OpenContrail, OPNFV, and more. Whether you are pursuing a private, public or multi-cloud approach, the OpenStack Summit is the place to network, skill up and plan your cloud strategy.

Creating NFV-ready containers with kuryr-kubernetes

Bringing NFV use-cases to Kubernetes container world is not an easy task. Kubernetes does not natively offer things like SR-IOV, multiple interface Pods or CPU-pinning to name a few. We also have to assume, that the transition from VMs will not be instantaneous. We want to allow using legacy VM-based NFV apps along with developing or converting the new ones to container basis. And we want them to be able to talk to each other over the same networks.

Kuryr-kubernetes is naturally our best candidate for the task. In this talk we’re going to give an overview of kuryr-kubernetes internals and cover how we’re solving the NFV challenges with it. We’ll show how NFV app developers can take advantage of our work and will also touch on the neighbouring topics of COE-deployment, status of multi-network in Kubernetes, CPU-pinning and hugepages support in Kubernetes, DPDK apps in containers.

What can I expect to learn?

Attendees will learn what kuryr-kubernetes is and how they can use it to allow containers and VMs talk over the same neutron networks. They will learn the internal control flow of kuryr-kubernetes and its different modes of operation (nested vs bare metal). We'll also cover how to use the latest additions to kuryr-kubernetes, most importantly how to configure and use SRIOV interfaces in kuryr-k8s controlled containers and multiple interface Pods.
