As the OpenStack Cloud moves to the edge of the network, besides managing server-based applications on general purpose servers close to the end devices, cloud admins are looking to also leverage this edge cloud to manage the edge devices themselves (and the applications running on those edge devices). Today this is typically done with Edge Cloud Applications for managing IOT Devices. But there are benefits to integrating parts or all of the IOT Device Management into the Edge Cloud infrastructure services itself.
We'll discuss the characteristics of these end IOT Devices; e.g. size, compute resources, IPMI capabilities or not, pre-loaded software or not, etc. . And then we'll discuss some initial services that the Edge Cloud infrastructure could provide for these IOT Devices; e.g. bare metal booting, application management, remote persistent volumes, load balancing services, DNS services, alarm collection & reporting, log collection, etc. .
Explores the generally new area of IOT Device Management at the Edge; brainstorming on how the Edge Cloud Infrastructure can be leveraged to provide single Edge Cloud / Edge IOT Solution.
