Want to hear from how we've implemented OpenStack internally inside our engineering support organization? How we're able to scale to over 7000 VM instances, 14,000 cores across 3 geographical regions (2 US, 1 India)? Also how we're able to automate upgrades with Puppet between releases for a non-disruptive experience for our users? If so, this session is for you!
We will focus on a couple of key findings:
What influence the needs of our users had on the choice of the underlying compute, storage and networking layer
What challenges we faced when combining this new self-service environment with best practices of traditional IT and virtualization, with a focus on automation and ease-of-use for both our developers and our operators
How OpenStack challenges the status quo of support organizations, and where we are taking our internal deployment next
Tips for selecting and sourcing optimal hardware for OpenStack deployments, with reference architecture advice on optimal deployments
Attendees will hear real-world experiences of OpenStack deployments in the enterprise. Not only will strategies for success be discussed, but also trials/tribulations and potential pitfalls and learnings so that other folks will not make the same mistakes. Also the role of converged infrastructure in an OpenStack deployment and the scalability of the infrastructure will be stressed, with a concentration on how a traditional engineering support organization historically providing VMWare hosting tackles OpenStack operations and developer support as an internal function.
