Pluribus Netvisor Delivers Key Features to OpenStack Success: Interoperability, Embedded Analytics, Fabric Management and Virtualization

Pluribus Networks, the company that brings hyper-convergence to software-defined networking (SDN) through the industry’s most programmable, open-source based operating system, Netvisor® (nvOS), announced today that it has been certified with Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform 5. The Pluribus Networks OpenStack integration, certified after a series of extensive tests, eases the deployment of Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform for both enterprises and cloud service providers. The company is also announcing additional development support for the OpenStack community.

Pluribus’ role in open source aligns well with its deployment in business IT, which has doubled since 2010 according to a recent study by Black Duck. Additionally, more than 65 percent of enterprises gain competitive advantage through open source, and OpenStack is considered the most valuable project, surpassing Docker and even Linux. The combination of the Red Hat certified controller, Pluribus switching via the Neutron ML2 plug-in, and Pluribus Netvisor fabric, analytics, with virtualization capabilities brings a new level of performance and ease of deployment to OpenStack. The Pluribus Netvisor, the first true bare-metal network hypervisor, creates a controller-less SDN switching fabric across an OpenStack deployment with a single point of control. Standards-based L2 and IP permit interoperability, especially important for enterprise hybrid cloud installations. Central to OpenStack is multi-tenancy, natively supported by Netvisor and supporting both high-performance virtual and hardware-based routing. Lastly, Netvisor offers fabric-wide embedded analytics without a separate visibility fabric or taps, further enabling per-tenant SLAs. “Pluribus Netvisor, having achieved Red Hat certification, provides customer confidence and a compelling value proposition for both enterprise and cloud service provider OpenStack deployments,” said Mike Werner, senior director, Global Technology Ecosystems, Red Hat. Pluribus is an active member of the world’s largest commercial partner ecosystem for OpenStack aimed at accelerating customer adoption and delivering on the promise of enterprise class capabilities for the cloud.

The company is also announcing the creation of the CI infrastructure for Pluribus upstream contributions to the OpenStack community. This initially consists of the ML2 plug-in, but will grow over time. In addition, Pluribus partner Appcara is deploying the company’s switches for a converged OpenStack deployment.

“This announcement further validates the openness and flexibility of the Pluribus Netvisor operating system,” said David Ginsburg, CMO of Pluribus Networks. “Red Hat has been a key OpenStack partner for us, and in combination with Netvisor, we jointly deliver a certified, feature-rich solution for mainstream enterprises where interoperability and simplicity are paramount.” Pluribus will be demonstrating its OpenStack solutions at the upcoming Red Hat Summit in Boston, June 23-26, 2015.
