Bio

Ray Nugent is an experienced executive, inventor, architect and entrepreneur in the Large Scale Systems Management space. Ray founded Smartscale Systems to address complex problems with cloud federation in large enterprises that have to deal with multiple business units with matrixed reporting and M&A integration thousands of apps configurations deploying huge numbers of network devices generating hundreds of silos of data. 

Intelligent, automated cloud management in that environment, across multiple cloud providers is complex. The Smartscale solution provides a highly scalable, Multi Tenant automation platform integrating all major public clouds, on-prem cloud stacks and software defined network (SDN) controllers 

The goal is to provide a unified platform for effectively dealing with the monumental challenge of integrating physical, virtual and cloud based devices and apps, effectively automating monitoring and managing what's happening in a company's cloud and virtualized Datacenter.

As the author of early patents in the cloud space (US 8,238,256 - A System and Method for Cloud Computing), the Smartscale vision was a simple but powerful and cost effective solution that creates a programmable datacenter.

Prior to Smartscale Ray was in Senior Management at Cisco systems in the security and network management arena leading engineering teams that drive explosive growth to over $35 billion dollars in revenue.

Prior to Cisco Ray lead the creation of the Internet Services Business line for Tandem subsidiary Ungermann-Bass developing a product line of internet product/services worth over $100 million.

Prior to UB Ray led the migration of proprietary telecommunications management protocols to the SNMP stack at ROLM Systems, growing the product line from zero to $45 million in revenue.

Ray Graduated from California State University at Chico with a degree in Electronics and Computer Technology
