VNF, container scheduling, HPC workloads in the cloud
Mohamed received his M.Sc . in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Western University, Canada, and his B.Sc. from Alexandria University, Egypt. He is a Systems Administrator at SHARCNET Supercomputing Consortium and serving as the Operational Lead of the Compute Canada National Cloud team. The team is responsible for architecting, deploying, and operating OpenStack clouds that support very unique workloads, including ATLAS Tier-2 and the New-Horizons space probe big-data indexing platform.
Mohamed became involved with Openstack in early 2015 and has been a frequent speaker/attendee of the Openstack summits. In 2017, he started the Southwestern Ontario User Group to get the Openstack user-base in the region to meet and share knowledge. He served as the Chair and the Vice-Chair of the Openstack User Committee in 2019 and 2020. Over the last few years, he has been involved in the OpenStack community in other capacities including serving on the summit programming committee, forum selection committee, and in the UC elections.
Mohamed is currently pursuing his PhD. at Western University, Canada with a research-focus on Cloud Computing. He is a big advocate for bridging the gap between Academic Research and Technology through collaboration between the academic and the opensource communities.
