Manju is a candidate in the 2017 Board Election .

What is your relationship to OpenStack, and why is its success important to you? What would you say is your biggest contribution to OpenStack's success to date?

I have been fortunate to serve as a member of the board of directors for OpenStack foundation in 2016.  I have been working with the community for over five years now.

From our customer's perspective, OpenStack has delivered somehting that many many standards bodies have always aspired to to do, but never delivered : that is around standardizing the way applications and operators interact with the IT infrastructure, whether it is Storage, Server, Network or Virtual Infrastrcuture Fabric.

Rate of revolution/evolution in the IT industry is very high, compared to what we have seen in the past with other industries.  This requires OpenStack team to continue to build on the current strenght, modernize how we facilitate this Infrastructure Management and Orchestration for our customers.  OpenStack community has the right culture, to continue to make difference in this space, so it is important for OpenStack community to continue to drive this focus.

Describe your experience with other non profits or serving as a board member. How does your experience prepare you for the role of a board member?

Served as a member of the board of directors for OpenStack Foundation - 2016.  I have had a chance to work with community members as well as fellow Board members very closely.  I learned a lot during the one year.  I look forward to continue to build on relationship and continue to make difference.

What do you see as the Board's role in OpenStack's success?

For the year 2017 -  board needs to provide more focus.  There are multiple projects happening outside of the OpenStack community that are becoming equally important for our customers.    We need to focus on our core strenghts.

We have already started doing that in 2016 - especially collaboration around Kubernetes and Containers community.  In the year 2017, it will be good to even consider eliminating some of the projects, provide stricter guidelines around what makes up "big tent".

What do you think the top priority of the Board should be in 2016?

Provide stronger focus for the core projects - Cinder, Nova, Ironic, Neutron, Manila & Keystone.  Focus on making these APIs as defacto way of communicating with infrastructure.

Strengthen partnership with key open source communities and eliminate redundant efforts.

OpenStack COA program is a great way to build sustainable userbase and community for years and decades to come.   In 2017, we need to focus on significantly increasing adoption of this program.
