About the OpenStack Foundation
The OpenStack Foundation is non-profit organization founded in 2012 with the goal of ensuring infrastructure is truly open and accessible to everyone globally. This work started with the OpenStack IaaS open source software project, and in late 2017, the Foundation added its first new infrastructure project outside of Openstack, called Kata Containers.
 
In 2018 and beyond the Foundation will support other open infrastructure projects, including testing and integration work between projects, to ensure they work well for infrastructrue operators. The user driven focus areas include Data Center Cloud Computing, Edge Computing, Container Infrastructure, CI/CD, HPC/research, and other markets for open infrastructure as they emerge.
 
Many contributors and sponsors of the Foundation are located in China, and the OpenStack Foundation is looking for a local community manager to better serve our Chinese community.


Goals

  • Grow the number of contributors and users of OpenStack, Kata Containers and future projects hosted by the OpenStack Foundation
  • Provide leadership and liaison for the OpenStack Foundation in China
  • Build stronger relationships with OpenStack Foundation Platinum and Gold Members in China
  • Help guide and focus the resources and contributions of member companies & users in China in the most effective way
  • Collaborate with Foundation leadership to translate Foundation goals and provide feedback from our Chinese community members and users

Example Activities

  • Regular meetings and communications with users and member companies in China, helping spread Foundation messages and sharing learnings back with Foundation leadership
  • Help implement interoperability program and share importance of interoperability with Chinese ecosytem and users
  • Support the organization of key events in China, such as OpenStack Days or potential Summit in the future
  • Support marketing and social media efforts in China, including openstack.cn and WeChat
  • Help bring in resources required for individual projects, whether that's translation, video or web design
  • Help onboard new contributors and users and help guide their contribution efforts in the most productive way
  • Speak, moderate panels or contribute articles to help evangelize OpenStack, Kata Containers and new projects at various events
  • Help be a cultural advisor for Foundation leadership, staff and community

Minimum Requirements/Skill

  • Based in China. Bilingual, able to communicate readily with the OpenStack Foundation team and local community members
  • Strong understanding of OpenStack software and community, cloud computing and emerging technologies in the space
  • Have an understanding of how open source communities work and how the products within are developed
  • Ability to travel outside the country (Visa permitting) at least four times per year  
  • Identify and proactively solve problems in the community 
  • Strong communications skills across various mediums
  • Thrive working remotely in home office, coffee shop or coworking space
  • Multi-task effortlessly, juggling several projects at once
