As Software Engineer focusing on OpenStack Swift, you’ll be contributing to its development and to the development of tools for its deployment and management. You will have the opportunity to work on OpenShift Operators to optimize and support the software deployment and also on other OpenStack storage projects to support integration.

What you will do

• Deliver software and support for Red Hat's OpenStack cloud product
• Develop, maintain, and write software and automated tests for OpenStack Swift
• Help deliver Red Hat's strategy around OpenStack cloud deployment and management of OpenStack Swift and OpenStack storage in general
• Develop OpenShift Operators to allow for the deployment of Red Hat OpenStack Swift
• Contribute to the writing and review of customer documentation
• Engage and assist in the resolution of software issues both from internal users and from external customers
• Contribute to the the quality and success of our Red Hat products and the open source communities that serve as our foundation

 

What you will bring

• Comfortable working with a distributed remote international team and being located in office
• Good English written and verbal communication skills
• Experience developing in a programming language like Go and/or Python, knowledge in C, Java, or Ruby are only plus
• Experience using Linux and debugging Linux environments
• Familiarity with Cloud Storage, OpenStack, Kubernetes and related infrastructure as a service (IaaS) technologies is a plus
• Experience with distributed systems and networking is a plus
• Experience with OpenStack and OpenShift technologies would be ideal 
• Open Source community experience is a plus
• Passion for solving problems, continuous improvement, teamwork and open communication are key strengths

Responsibilities:

• Engage directly with customers and the internal CloudOps team, handling issues through phone, ticketing system, and remote sessions.
• Investigate and resolve complex problems related to Atmosphere's portfolio of products.
• Contribute to and maintain our knowledge base, sharing knowledge and lessons learned with customers and the internal team.
• Handle each support case you own in accordance with our Service Level Agreement (SLA), ensuring high customer satisfaction by setting and meeting expectations.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrable understanding of cloud architecture and principles.
• Proficiency in Kubernetes and Ceph or other storage platforms.
• Strong customer service skills, and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of customers and internal team.
• Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
• A background check is required.

Preferred:

• Experience with cloud services, particularly with a focus on OpenStack technologies.
• Relevant certifications in cloud technologies, such as Certified OpenStack Administrator or Certified Kubernetes Administrator.
• Familiarity with ML2/OVS or OVN.
• Understanding of networking protocols and principles, as well as network virtualization.

The Core Unit Bioinformatics "CUBiMed.RUB" at the Faculty of Medicine offers a wide range of bioinformatics resources for academics in the fields of life sciences. We offer consulting and analyses, training and tutorials, software and access to high performance hardware. The focus is on proteomics, genomics, transcriptomics, their combination ("multi omics"), but also on other - related or new - omics technologies and clinical research data.

CUBiMed.RUB operates a high performance compute cluster based on an OpenStack and Ceph infrastructure for the analysis of scientific data. This infrastructure is still under construction and will be further expanded, optimised and designed in the near future. All tasks, starting with setting up the hardware and networks, administration of the Linux servers and the OpenStack and Ceph nodes as well as user administration, are to be carried out by the candidate with a high degree of personal involvement.

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join our team working on our cloud-native product suite. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in computer science, have worked on cloud-native technologies, and have a willingness to learn new technologies.

Roles and Responsibilities: 

• Contribute to the development of cloud-native products and services for our Kubernetes product ecosystem.
• Learn and collaborate with the team to design and implement the product roadmap.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or related field.

• 5-10 years of experience in a software development role.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies like Kubernetes is a plus.
• Prior experience with OpenStack/DevStack is also a plus.
• Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals with willingness to learn and build products in the cloud computing and virtualization space. 
• Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix systems.
• Developing distributed systems and SaaS products.
• Should be conversant with essentials of data networking.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
