IRC can run on many different networks, and we have used <a href=\"https:\/\/freenode.net\/\"><strong>Freenode<\/strong> <\/a>as the IRC network since the beginning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recently, there was a change in ownership, organization structure, and policy on <a href=\"https:\/\/freenode.net\/\"><strong>Freenode<\/strong><\/a>. A lot of discussions occurred on social media, <a href=\"https:\/\/etherpad.opendev.org\/p\/openstack-irc\">this etherpad<\/a> and in openstack-discuss <a href=\"http:\/\/lists.openstack.org\/pipermail\/openstack-discuss\/2021-May\/022539.html\">ML<\/a> about the changes Freenode was going through, questioning whether we should continue using it. Given the feedback from the community and the current situation with Freenode, the OpenStack Technical Committee, with input from other community leaders, we have <a href=\"http:\/\/lists.openstack.org\/pipermail\/openstack-discuss\/2021-May\/022718.html\">decided to change the IRC network<\/a> from Freenode to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oftc.net\/\"><strong>OFTC<\/strong><\/a>. You can see the OpenStack Technical Committee <a href=\"https:\/\/governance.openstack.org\/tc\/resolutions\/20210526-move-irc-to-oftc.html\">resolution <\/a>about this decision.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This migration was done on May 31, 2021. A huge thanks to the OpenDev team, especially Jeremy Stanley (fungi), for this smooth migration. All the current IRC channels used by the OpenStack community are registered in the OFTC network with the same name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.openstack.org\/contributors\/common\/irc.html\">how to Join OFTC OpenStack channels<\/a> page can help you to join us on OFTC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All OpenStack discussions and meetings are happening on OFTC channels now. To track our migration progress, we are using <a href=\"https:\/\/etherpad.opendev.org\/p\/openstack-irc-migration-to-oftc\">this etherpad<\/a> as&nbsp; \u2018\u2018Communicate with community\u201d tasks.
