Brian Schmeecrest here, coming to you live from the OpenStack LA<\/a> premiere.\u00a0 I\u2019ll take you behind the scenes<\/a> of this momentous event, give you the scoop on the presenters, highlight who said what, and get the lowdown on the worst dressed\u00a0from the Fashion Polizei.<\/p>\n\"\"\n

First up, let\u2019s give the folks at home some background on this event.\u00a0 It\u2019s been billed as the very first\u00a0OpenStack user group gathering\u00a0in Los Angeles.\u00a0 The Meetup was well attended by over 60 Stackers, many of who\u00a0had traveled great distances\u00a0across Southern California to be there.\u00a0 Sultan Chicken catered the Greek food and Buzz Wine & Beer supplied the Firestone DBA and Racer 5 IPA.<\/p>\n

The men of the hour were Vish Ishaya<\/a> and Jay Pipes<\/a>.\u00a0 Vish works for Rackspace Cloud Builders<\/a> and is also the Nova Project Technical Lead for OpenStack Compute.\u00a0\u00a0 Jay is the Director of Engineering for HP\u2019s Open Source Cloud Services<\/a> team.\u00a0 He also sits on the OpenStack Project Policy Board.<\/p>\n

\"\"Vish presented first on OpenStack\u2019s Compute history,\u00a0talked about how devs could get their feet wet via DevStack.org<\/a>, walked the audience through a demo of OpenStack, updated everyone on the upcoming Essex release, and hinted at what he\u2019d like to see in the future Folsom release.<\/p>\n

OH: \u00a0It\u2019s difficult to quantify the level of contributions to the OpenStack project.\u00a0 The primary takeaway is that there is a whole lot of \u201cimmeasurable awesomeness\u201d flowing into OpenStack.<\/em><\/p>\n

After making a long trip from Ohio, Jay Pipes told the LA audience the story<\/a> of TryStack.org<\/a> and how it came to be.\u00a0 He started with several uses of TryStack, how over 800 users have tried it, hardware specs and architecture, TryStack\u2019s deployment and the resulting lessons learned.<\/p>\n\"\"<\/a>\n

After the presentations, the Stackers casually lingered while chatting jovially and sipping on their beers.\u00a0 The air in the room was filled with OpenStack excitement and the smell of succulent kebabs.\u00a0 It was truly a night to remember.<\/p>\n\"\"<\/a>\n

I\u2019m going to close our show by opening a sealed envelope that was given to me by none other than Herr Bogensberger from the Fashion Polizei. \u00a0Herr Bogensberger is the utmost authority on high fashion. \u00a0From what he told me, it was a major faux pas. \u00a0The perp stood out like Lady Gaga playing bingo at the Sleepy Willow Retirement Home.<\/p>\n

Ladies and gentlemen, are you ready to hear who took the crown for the worst dressed?<\/p>\n
