Midokura Doubles Down on OpenStack, Expands Team with Addition of Takashi Yamamoto as OpenStack Engineer

SAN FRANCISCO – June 24, 2015 – Midokura, a global startup focused on network virtualization, today announced its ongoing commitment to OpenStack with the appointment of Takashi Yamamoto as OpenStack engineer. The news comes after Yamamoto’s recent selection to join the OpenStack Neutron core reviewer team.

Previously, Yamamoto was cloud infrastructure expert at VA Linux Systems Japan, where he was responsible for developing the OFAgent, a Neutron-core plugin that leverages Ryu, the open source component-based SDN framework for implementation. He is a renowned Linux kernel, virtualization and distributed computing expert, who for the past decade has worked on various highly successful open source software projects, and is a member of the NetBSD Core group providing technical management and direction for the NetBSD project.

The move signifies Midokura’s ongoing commitment to OpenStack. At Midokura, Yamamoto will help define networking requirements and work on the reference implementation for OpenStack Neutron project. In addition, he will work on integrating the open source version of MidoNet network virtualization technology with OpenStack.

Midokura’s enterprise offering, known as Midokura Enterprise MidoNet or MEM, combines the most stable, production-hardened version of MidoNet for network virtualization with MidoNet Manager, longer term support and enterprise-class 24/7 service level agreement. The latest release of MEM, announced last month, offers enhanced operational and management features, along with new support for OpenStack Kilo, and for container-based environments, such as Docker.

Supporting Quotes

The result is a much more scalable and efficient networking solution for highly virtualized cloud environments. In that vein, we are thrilled to welcome Takashi Yamamoto to drive Midokura’s continued work in this area, and congratulate him on his appointment to the OpenStack Neutron Core Reviewer Team.”
