Midokura Launches New Network Virtualization Solution with OpenStack Kilo and Docker Support

Latest Midokura Enterprise MidoNet Technology Release Provides Enhanced Network Visibility and Analysis, Offers Support for Container-Based Environments, Including Docker

OPENSTACK SUMMIT, Vancouver, Canada – May 19, 2015 – Midokura, a global startup focused on network virtualization, today announced the latest release of Midokura Enterprise MidoNet (MEM), a scalable network virtualization solution designed for Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) clouds. The production-ready, enterprise-grade MEM release offers enhanced operational and management features, along with new support for OpenStack Kilo, and for container-based environments, such as Docker.

“Today’s release of Midokura Enterprise MidoNet (MEM) is designed to address the growing distributed application workloads many of our worldwide customers face,” said Adam Johnson, VP of business at Midokura. “Our new MEM solution offers enhanced and streamlined operational management, allowing users to regain control of their network performance and operations. And with new support for OpenStack Kilo, along with container-based environments, such as Docker, MEM continues its evolution by becoming the proven, production-grade network virtualization solution on the market today.”

Enterprises continue to realize the benefits of moving to the cloud, but the journey can still be disruptive to business and IT. Given this, it is important to control downside costs and risks that can outweigh the benefits. Enter the new MEM release, featuring enhancements to the MidoNet Manager to offer enterprises a smooth transition, while also providing increased visibility and monitoring of large networks. Now, network administrators can rely on MEM to gain an even tighter grip over their network and application behaviors, allowing for enhanced network performance in addition to lower network operations costs.

Midokura’s award-winning MEM technology offers an intelligent, software-based network abstraction layer between the hosts and the physical network, by decoupling the IaaS cloud from the network hardware. Operators in turn can build isolated networks in software that overlays the existing hardware-based network infrastructure. Designed for distributed computing, MEM provides per-tenant network control so that operators can create and make changes to the virtual network without disturbing the physical infrastructure via the intuitive MidoNet Manager.

Midokura continues to see overwhelming customer demand for its MEM technology worldwide and is the trusted network virtualization vendor of choice for large-scale OpenStack deployments for leading organizations, including Blue Jeans Network, Dell and Colt-KVH, to name a few.

Highlights of the new MEM release include:

Support for the popular OpenStack Juno and Kilo releases.
Added features in MidoNet Manager for enhanced manageability and operations, including: flow tracing of virtual ports for easier troubleshooting and diagnostics and enhanced Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) Configuration session views.
A new support tool that collects states of configuration and log files, and virtual topologies in just one command.
Support for the Puppet configuration management tool via the Puppet Module, designed to install MidoNet with OpenStack to provide MidoNet as an option for enhancing OpenStack Neutron.
Support for Docker and other container-based environments. MidoNet offers multi-host Docker support via leveraging nova-docker, a plugin for Openstack Nova. With this release, MEM can support both hypervisor-based and container-based environments within the OpenStack IaaS cloud.
Availability and Pricing

The latest version of MEM is available immediately. Midokura offers a free 30-day software evaluation that includes enterprise-grade 24/7 support, documentation, hardened packages and the MidoNet Manager (GUI).
