SAN FRANCISCO – February 25, 2015 – Midokura, a global startup focused on network virtualization, today announced the latest release of Midokura Enterprise MidoNet (MEM), a scalable network virtualization solution designed for Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) clouds. The production-ready, enterprise-grade MidoNet offers support for key enterprise platforms, including VMware vSphere, Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform 6 and OpenStack.

At Midokura, we continue to disrupt the market and innovate our network virtualization solution to make cloud adoption seamless and easy for the enterprise,” said Dan Dumitriu, co-founder and CEO of Midokura. “Our latest Enterprise MidoNet release marks the next step in our product evolution by offering support for platforms that are already proven and well-entrenched in modern enterprise data centers. The result is that businesses can make the most of their technology investments with Midokura’s open, scalable network virtualization for heterogeneous hypervisors and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) clouds.”

Enterprises continue to realize the benefits of moving to the cloud, but the journey can still be disruptive to business and IT. Given this, it is important to control downside costs and risks that can outweigh the benefits. Enter MEM, which offers enterprises a smooth transition while also bridging their existing virtualization technologies, including vSphere, with cloud orchestration solutions, such as OpenStack.

MEM creates an intelligent, software-based network abstraction layer between the hosts and the physical network, by decoupling the IaaS cloud from the network hardware. Operators in turn can build isolated networks in software that overlays the existing hardware-based network infrastructure. Designed for distributed computing, MEM provides per-tenant network control so that operators can create and make changes to the virtual network without disturbing the physical infrastructure via the intuitive MidoNet Manager.

Highlights of the new Midokura Enterprise MidoNet release include:

  • Support for the popular OpenStack Juno release.
  • Further enhancements for OpenStack Neutron, including the introduction of the Load Balancing as a Service (LBaaS) from MidoNet. Extending the default LBaaS functionality from OpenStack, this new feature enables administrators to provide each tenant with distributed load balancing service from OpenStack Horizon UI.
  • Enhanced vSphere integration, which is particularly important so network administrators can manage both vSphere and OpenStack more consistently with a single MidoNet instance. Bridging virtualization and cloud orchestration provides the benefits of overlay network virtualization to heterogenous networks.
  • Certification for Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform 6.
  • New features in MidoNet Manager, including BGP Configuration and Layer 4 Load Balancer Configuration. The BGP Configuration allows for simple configuration of the BGP gateways and the ability to add or take down gateways to support new services or to adjust capacity, all of can be done simply with a few mouse clicks. The Layer 4 Load Balancer configuration feature enables easy addition of load balancers to new and existing resource pools and MidoNet Manager provides 360 degree visibility of all network constructs and load balancer health through automated health checks.

Availability and Pricing

The latest version of MEM is available immediately. Midokura offers a free 30-day software evaluation that includes enterprise-grade 24/7 support, documentation, hardened packages and the MidoNet Manager (GUI).
