SANTA CLARA, Calif., October 21, 2015 — PLUMgrid, the leading provider of secure and scalable software-defined networking solutions for OpenStack® clouds, today announced NTT SmartConnect, a division of NTT Group, has selected PLUMgrid Open Networking Suite (ONS) as the virtual networking platform for its OpenStack cloud providing innovative streaming media to users.
NTT SmartConnect is a leader in Japan’s cloud market with solutions ranging from virtual platforms to SaaS. NTT SmartConnect operates an OpenStack cloud serving media content to their customers. The division requires a flexible, high-speed virtual network infrastructure to stream live shows and events simultaneously to many end users on a variety of devices. Media content is customized to user profiles and subscriptions, and it must be delivered without network latency to ensure optimal user experience.
NTT SmartConnect needed a network infrastructure with scalable, multi-tenant data center with independent subscriber policy enforcement, always-on connectivity and virtually zero latency. Exponential growth in media content and consumption means that NTT SmartConnect needs a solution that scales data center infrastructure, optimizes operational efficiency and reduces infrastructure costs without compromising user experience.
Traditional, hardware-based networking fails to provide the service agility and scalability required to meet these objectives. Manual provisioning of networks is time intensive and operationally inefficient, leading to lost productivity and reduced customer satisfaction.
The solution, powered by PLUMgrid ONS, leverages microsegmentation using private virtual domains that are set up on demand with virtual network functions, policies and security groups. It enables efficient, agile service provisioning with automated workflows, improving time to market while reducing operational overhead.
