Statement of Interest

Public cloud service based on openstack;

Hui is the CEO & Founder of UnitedStack Inc., an OpenStack start-up with targeting on Great China and Asia open cloud market. As a new enterprenour who has deep engineering background in open source and cloud technologies, Hui gathered a group of powerful and talented OpenStack developers and top engineers from China and U.S., and founded this cloud company to build an open and commoditized cloud OS based on OpenStack as well as some other open source softwares in February 2013.

Hui’s dream is to build a cloud software company to overthrow the traditional enterprise IT industry, as well as a respectable open source company that could be heaven for technical engineers.

Prior to starting his own business, Hui was the technical leader of the OpenStack team in Sina, where he initiated the first OpenStack based on public Iaas cloud in China, while leading his team to become the No.1 corporate contributor in China.

I'm involved in the following OpenStack projects: Nova,Swift,Keystone,Cinder,Quantum,Tempest,Openstack-ci

Hui is a candidate in the 2014 Board Election.

What is your relationship to OpenStack, and why is its success important to you? What would you say is your biggest contribution to OpenStack's success to date?

I am running UnitedStack, the first dedicated OpenStack start-up in China, it OpenStack fails, I will lose my job:)

The biggest contributions to OpenStack I think is that I have built a strong OpenStack team in UnitedStack to continuously contribute to the OpenStack community, from code contribution to community building.

In OpenStack Havana release, my team ranked as Top 10 corporate contributor to whole OpenStack projects. We have succussfully proven a lot of Chinese comapnies that OpenStack works in building priavte and public cloud.

Describe your experience with other non profits or serving as a board member. How does your experience prepare you for the role of a board member?

As an early OpenStack advocator and practicer, I played a critical role in promoting OpenStack in China. I have been actively involved in the participation and organization of various OpenStack activities in China. And I am a frequent speaker in these activities.

During my last 2-years OpenStack carreer, I have communicated with almost all the Chinese OpenStack users and vendors, having deep understanding in OpenStack business and status quo in China.

What do you see as the Board's role in OpenStack's success?

As independent legal body of OpenStack project, OpenStack Foundation Board will lead the development of OpenStack project, and take charge of the operation and promotion of global OpenStack community. The design of three different types of seats of OpenStack board will enables more companies, community representatives, and industry leaders to participate in the management affairs of OpenStack project, which is beneficial to the more neutral development of OpenStack in line with the interests of more companies and individuals.

What do you think the top priority of the Board should be in 2014?

Focusing on users!

User experience gains user adoption, we should take more care on OpenStack deployment, auto configurations and user interface design.
