Statement of Interest
With a career spanning 18 years, Benjamin has deep experience building, managing, and designing Internet services. Has has architected and managed solutions for Linux systems administration, automation, VOIP, software development, network engineering, software testing and quality assurance at Acxiom, Google, TD Ameritrade and Rackspace. He began his career developing for and promoting Linux in 1994, and created one of a handful of early businesses using Linux professionally. He went on to found 3 Internet start-ups.
At Compare Metrics, Benjamin serves as VP of Technical Operations and is responsible for Architecture, QA, Deployments and Monitoring to ensure reliability, scale and redundancy across the company. In addition, Benjamin serves as the Chief Cultural Officer to promote and expand on company culture.
Benjamin is passionate about Free and Open Source software and is an Invited Expert to the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), guiding future Internet standards in the social networking realm.

What is your relationship to OpenStack, and why is its success important to you? What would you say is your biggest contribution to OpenStack's success to date?
Early adopter and promoter of OpenStack as a means to promote a standard cloud infrastructure deployment. Created numerous tools for interworking pieces to allow use of the same tools across providers.
Describe your experience with other non profits or serving as a board member. How does your experience prepare you for the role of a board member?
As a invited expert to the W3C, I have helped defined modern standards for the internet, as well as a technology executive with hands on experience, gives me a unique view with the ability to understand what is needed to execute.
What do you see as the Board's role in OpenStack's success?
The board should guide the development by setting organization vision and ensuring success by ongoing support. Promote the technology and the increase OpenStack adoption.
What do you think the top priority of the Board should be in 2014?
Promotion and acquiring new partners to consolidate cloud offerings to a open standard.
