Red Hat Cloud Engineering is seeking an engineering manager with broad software engineering experience and an interest in Infrastructure as a Service to help lead their OpenStack team. The successful candidate will be expected to help drive the direction and architecture of OpenStack by working through the software engineers on their team and with the upstream community as a whole.

As a software engineering manager at Red Hat, the candidate will have the opportunity to lead a top notch team of engineers and influence the direction of cloud computing. The candidate will be responsible for both directing forward looking feature development as well as driving enterprise level software quality and experience into OpenStack. The engineering team will be distributed and comprised of independent and motivated individuals. The candidate should be comfortable managing a team of this nature and with using remote collaboration and communication tools.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Work with other managers on the OpenStack team to help supervise the overall effort

  • Work with the engineering team to develop technology roadmaps and schedules, and

    communicate these schedules externally

  • Engage with the upstream community to more effectively drive the engineering team

  • Work with cross functional managers and teams (documentation, product management, quality

    assurance) to coordinate tasks necessary for shipping enterprise quality software

  • Work with other engineering managers and teams (virtualization, storage, networking) to utilize

    existing technologies and jointly drive improvements

    Required Skills

  • 7+ years of significant software development experience5+ years of managing software

    developers and product releases

  • Background in virtualization preferred, with experience with KVM based virtualization a plus

  • Background in either enterprise storage systems, distributed systems and/or networking

    (including software defined networking)

  • A deep understanding of Cloud Computing and Infrastructure as a Service

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or equivalent

  • Familiar with test driven development and Agile or Scrum style methodologies

  • Strong understanding of open source development models and how the Linux community

    interacts

  • Prior participation in open source community oriented software development or leadership is a

    plus
