Product Manager:

Piston is looking for a Product Manager. Initially, you will be an individual contributor with primary responsibility for capturing and articulating the strategy and vision for Piston’s products, then for driving that vision to reality.  A successful candidate in this role will thoroughly enjoy spending time with both customers and partners and understand their problems in order to create innovative solutions for the broader market. 

This position requires an individual with strong business and technical savvy, capable of driving big-picture vision into clearly articulated product direction.  Piston's Product Manager will work across all areas of the company: engineering, marketing, customer support, and sales to function as both an internal and external evangelist for Piston’s product offering through collaborating with the Sales channel and key customers.

Piston is seeking a self-motivated individual who enjoys the dynamics of a startup company, always finds themselves at the center of projects, and is passionate about disrupting IT business as usual.


  • Manage the entire product line life-cycle from strategic planning to tactical activities.

  • Conduct market research supported by internal discussions and on-going visits to customers and non-customers.

  • Specify market requirements in terms of functional requirements, user stories, and objectives for current and future products through market research.

  • Drive a solution set across development teams (primarily Development/Engineering, and Marketing Communications) through market requirements, product contract, and positioning.

  • Develop and implement a company-wide go-to-market plan, executing in coordination with all departments.

  • Analyze potential partner relationships for the product.

Skills and Experience:

  • BS + 5 years experience, MBA a plus.  The candidate should have a background in one of the following disciplines: Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related focus.

  • 3+ years Product Management experience for mission-critical IT infrastructure products.

  • Experience implementing product management processes in a start-up or early stage company.

  • Strong background in at least one of the following: servers, virtualization, networks, and/or storage.

  • Technical understanding of key IT infrastructure components and their use.

  • Enterprise software product management.

  • Highly developed English written, oral, and graphic communications skills.

  • Ability to synthesize and clearly articulate complex concepts and requirements.

  • Strong organizational skills: ability to track and prioritize multiple issues.

  • Proven ability to lead by influence. 

  • Cross-organizational collaboration and project management for product release readiness.

  • (Strong plus) Product management experience with SAAS/Cloud products.

  • (Strong plus) Knowledge of and experience with OpenStack.
