The Adaptive Parallel Execution (APEX) group at the Arlington, Virginia site of the University of Southern California's Information Sciences Institute is seeking candidates for the Computer Scientist position in the area of systems software and/or high performance computing.

The APEX group is conducting research in making high performance computing resources, including shared memory multi-processors, GPU accelerators, and general-purpose many- core architectures available via private cloud infrastructure. We are contributing extensions to the OpenStack open source project, and are conducting studies on and implementing virtualization, scheduling, bare-metal provisioning, and security for high- performance cloud computing.

Successful candidates will have demonstrable (i.e. published) expertise in an area related to high performance cloud computing. In the immediate term, candidates will be expected to contribute to the ongoing HPC cloud effort, so expertise in one or more of the following areas is expected:

• Parallel and distributed systems (threads, message passing, or hybrid systems)

• Hypervisor internals

• Linux kernel internals

• Performance analysis (scalability, network and I/O optimization, parallel I/O, etc.)
